Vibrant Color and Texture

Trying to decide if your bridal bouquet should be simple and classic, perhaps a combination of all white and ivory flowers or perhaps you want to pop it out and have fun with your colors and choose a more dramatic color combination. In my experience, this is truly a personal choice.

With 50% of our brides going with white, ivory or paler tones and the other 50% going more colorful, I admit that I'm a sucker for these more unusual color combinations. Take this weekend's bridal bouquet for Megan with it's dramatic textures and color. Shades from peach, pink into deep oranges, this bouquet has lots of contrast and texture. Garden roses, dahlias, ranunculus, pincushion protea and hypericum berries accented with touches of baby's breath (see previous blog, those are what her bride's maids are carrying).

Because this bouquet is not only colorful but textural (all different shaped flowers) but not styled too wild, the overall look of the bouquet is still somewhat formal. I personally can not wait to see pictures of Megan holding her gorgeous bouquet!

The Baby's Breath Trend

Over the past year or so, baby's breath has really become a staple element in our floral designs and this summer has been no exception. This weekend, we're creating floral elements for a wedding at Chauncey Hotel and Conference Center using lots and lots of baby's breath including these for the bride maids. The stems are wrapped in a burlap ribbon for a rustic feel but not as rustic as twine. The bridal bouquet will be styled in vibrantly colored flowers but keeping to the simple, vintage theme, the centerpieces will be simple baby's breath in a mason jar.

Looking forward to 2015 weddings, I can't say for sure if the baby's breath trend will continue, although quite a few of our weddings for September and October will also be using this affordable but romantic flower. Stay tuned to our website to see future floral creations!

Adding Sentimental Details

I always love when we get to personalize a bridal bouquet but it's even more special when an element with sentimental attachment is included. In this bouquet, Bride Elizabeth had us add a family rosary.

Our past bride Maureen had us weaving lace from her Mother's own wedding gown through her cascade bouquet and this past year we used a necktie to wrap the stems of a bridal bouquet as a way of feeling close to her dad who had recently passed away.

Adding a personal touch like these can be a beautiful way to feeling connected to the past while being rooted in the present.

Flower Girl Wand

Looking for something sweet and different for your flower girl? Why not let us create a "wand" of flowers? This little cutie carried this for last Saturday's Christmas wedding and she just looked adorable. Staying in the wedding theme of white and gold, this little on

Lighter than you might think, it's easy to hold and the streaming ribbons probably looked so romantic as they flowed along with her. In this case, white roses accented with gold tinted ruscus created the tip of the wand while gold glittery streaming ribbons and looping bows just under the roses. The handle was wrapped in an ivory satin ribbon and was soft to the touch.

We think this little one must have felt like a princess for the day!

Sunflowers and Roses for Fall

What a fun time of year to have a wedding and we love the drama of these bouquets created for this weekends wedding. We don't often do lots of weddings in November and this year we have quite a few this year.

This bouquet was being designed for Jessica's brides maids. Ring of Fire sunflowers, Black Bacara roses along with brown hypericum berries make a striking combination, wouldn't you agree?

What I love most about this combination is the different shading and textures that each flower provides. Also, the striking yellow really pops against the dark burgundy roses. Be sure to check out our Fall Category of this website for more photos from this fall themed wedding!

Funky and Fun

The fall is such an amazing time of year for weddings given the color and flower choices. Take this bouquet for example ~ this includes so many unusual and fun funky flowers such as cymidium and mokara orchids, brunia, pincushion proteas, mini callas, roses and even fern curls. Created for our bride Alicia, it really was the perfect bouquet for her wedding outside at Grounds for Sculpture. I personally think the bouquet itself was a work of art!

I especially loved the different colors and textures and how they combined to give the bouquet movement. As this bouquet is spun around, it looks slightly different on all sides. Although, not for everyone, this bouquet will really be remember by everyone who sees it, don't you think?

Bridal Trends - Cascading Orchids

8/24/2013

As soon as you become involved in the wedding business, one of the first things you notice are flower trends as they come and go. Like fashion, what's in and what's not does seem to change with the seasons and the years.

For example, this year, anything vintage, shabby chic, sophisticated rustic and  southern style country have been very much in style. The flip side of that trend seems to be elegant and classic. Take these centerpieces for our Bride Melissa at the Stone House last weekend. Over sized pilsner vases were filled with river stones for a natural touch but then the vases were filled with cascading phalaenopsis orchids. Although the color them of the wedding was purple in all other areas, this couple went for a clean, uncluttered look by switching the table flowers to all white. Dramatic but elegant was the general feel of the room once all the flowers were in place.

These amazing orchids appear to be an emerging trend among our couples, with quite a few weddings in recent weeks including them. Now that I'm actively booking weddings for 2014, it appears that this trend will continue. Although more expensive than other centerpiece options, they cascading orchids tend to cost less then their dome shaped, above eye level cousins using hydrangeas, roses, etc. which really is a plus for those seeking elegantly over sized without the high price tag. to see these and more of wedding designs, be sure to check out our Centerpiece category on this website.

Fun Flowers for Men

Want to infuse a bit of personality into the boutonnieres at your wedding? Why not have fun with it.

Take these boutonnieres made for bride Maggie and Groom Gennady. They love, love, love, grape soda. All the brides maids dresses were a rich grape color and the grape soda bottle tops add a touch of whimsey to the mens attire, don't you agree?

In this case, groom Gennady wore a single white rose accented with a touch of green hypericum berries with the grape soda cap adding a splash of color at the bottom. Want to see other fun boutonniere ideas? Be sure to check out our Flowers for Men" category on this website!

See What You Like?

Inspiration photo ~ why do I ask my bride to show me pictures of wedding flowers they like? One of this weekends weddings is the perfect example; past bride Kate carried a rather large bridal bouquet of all roses from light, to medium and then onto deep pink. A classic design and such vibrant colors, perfect for summer.

Fast forward 3 years and this weekend's bride Alice see's Kate's bouquet on our website, her heart begins to quicken and she finds a bouquet she loves. See how easy that was for Alice? Also, a bit easier for me being Alice and I were never able to meet and did all our wedding flower planning via emails and phone conversations.

Taking the time to search the World Wide Web (and WOW how truly big it is) to find photos of flowers you like will go a long way in helping us to get quickly into your floral zone. So if you are planning your wedding right now, get crackin' and checking out the millions of amazing flower photos available on line! You'll be glad you did and so will I!

Gelosia Roses

If you have read my blogs in the past you'll know that I am passionate about roses and just love them to pieces. Not only are they affordable flowers that is both stunning and reliable but they come in so many different varieties;  shapes, sizes and colors. Takes this new variety called Gelosia for instance. Don't you just love the color and the shape of the petals. A tea rose variety, it has many qualities you look for in a garden rose, including a high petal count. The color is amazing in person ~ a sunny yellow with just a hint of lime green along it's outer petals. This weekends wedding for bride Sara has us using this amazing rose for her bride's maids bouquets. Would you consider this rose for your wedding if your color theme included yellow?
