Vibrant Color and Texture

Trying to decide if your bridal bouquet should be simple and classic, perhaps a combination of all white and ivory flowers or perhaps you want to pop it out and have fun with your colors and choose a more dramatic color combination. In my experience, this is truly a personal choice.

With 50% of our brides going with white, ivory or paler tones and the other 50% going more colorful, I admit that I'm a sucker for these more unusual color combinations. Take this weekend's bridal bouquet for Megan with it's dramatic textures and color. Shades from peach, pink into deep oranges, this bouquet has lots of contrast and texture. Garden roses, dahlias, ranunculus, pincushion protea and hypericum berries accented with touches of baby's breath (see previous blog, those are what her bride's maids are carrying).

Because this bouquet is not only colorful but textural (all different shaped flowers) but not styled too wild, the overall look of the bouquet is still somewhat formal. I personally can not wait to see pictures of Megan holding her gorgeous bouquet!

The Baby's Breath Trend

Over the past year or so, baby's breath has really become a staple element in our floral designs and this summer has been no exception. This weekend, we're creating floral elements for a wedding at Chauncey Hotel and Conference Center using lots and lots of baby's breath including these for the bride maids. The stems are wrapped in a burlap ribbon for a rustic feel but not as rustic as twine. The bridal bouquet will be styled in vibrantly colored flowers but keeping to the simple, vintage theme, the centerpieces will be simple baby's breath in a mason jar.

Looking forward to 2015 weddings, I can't say for sure if the baby's breath trend will continue, although quite a few of our weddings for September and October will also be using this affordable but romantic flower. Stay tuned to our website to see future floral creations!

Adding Sentimental Details

I always love when we get to personalize a bridal bouquet but it's even more special when an element with sentimental attachment is included. In this bouquet, Bride Elizabeth had us add a family rosary.

Our past bride Maureen had us weaving lace from her Mother's own wedding gown through her cascade bouquet and this past year we used a necktie to wrap the stems of a bridal bouquet as a way of feeling close to her dad who had recently passed away.

Adding a personal touch like these can be a beautiful way to feeling connected to the past while being rooted in the present.

A Vineyard Wedding

What a lovely day it was for this wedding being held at Valenzano Winery down in Shamong NJ earlier this spring. Patricia and Ariel had a lovely Spring day.  It's always wonderful to see the professional photos and I especially loved this one of the bridal bouquet.

A combination of roses, ranunculus, craspedia, dusty miller and phaelanopsis orchids, this bouquet was far from ordinary.  The brides maids carried bouquets in coral and yellow as their dresses were a bright sunny yellow while their shoes were a deep rich coral. What a striking combination against the back drop of the vines at the winery.

Thank you to Cain Images Photography for the wonderful shot.

Emem and Her Bridal Bouquet

I'm always amazed by how fast our brides can show us photos of their wedding. Take our lovely bride Emem who was married last weekend. Don't you just love how amazing she looks with her bouquet? Garden roses, mini callas lilies, hydrangeas, peony and touches of fresh ivy loops made for the perfect creamy pink bridal bouquet for an outdoor late June wedding.

Emem and Jim were married at Paradise Vineyards, a picturesque setting in Chesterfield NJ. Among the vines is a sprawling mansion that looks like it belongs in the mountains of Tuscan more so than New Jersey.

After a long walk down the rose petal lined aisle, Jim and Emem exchanged their vows and then ventured back up for cocktails and a sit down meal. After seeing all the photos from their day, I fee like I attended this amazing wedding.

Personalizing Your Wedding Bouquet

I loved working with bride Jeri for her wedding this wekeend because she is fun loving and has become a great customer. She comes in every week for our $5 Flower special, especially if the flowers are purple ~ her favorite!  It's no surprise to me that she chose to have fun with her wedding bouquet. Aren't the "love birds" she added to the stems adorable?

Bride's often give us items to attach to their bridal bouquets. They each have their reason for doing so. We've added rings, lockets, mini picture frames, hankies, pins, initials, fabric from wedding gowns and have even wrapped the stems in a mans tie that was once worn by the bride father. A sweet way to keep him close to her even though he had passed away and could not walk her down the aisle. Ok, as I sniff and blink back the tears remembering how the bride cried when she asked me to include this sentimental item, it's so nice for me to share in the special day of these amazing women. Each and every one touches me and none more than the ones with a sentimental streak like Jeri. :)

Rainbow Themed Wedding

Rainbow Themed Wedding
What fun floral bouquets we created for today's bride Melissa. A rainbow themed wedding was quite unusual and considering that we had to become "handy" with the flower tint, I think we did a great job. Wondering what flowers are naturally this color and what are tinted? The green bouquet had green roses that are natural but being there really isn't a green mini callas, those are tinted. The yellow bouquet is all natural, no helping Mother Nature there. The lavender roses are natural but then we did tint the mini callas, mostly because we wanted to control the color. The blue roses are stem dyed at the farm and the mini callas are also tinted. Each brides maid wore black dresses and so the color came from their bouquets.

What do you think about this rainbow themed wedding? It's not for everyone but our bride Melissa loved it!

Blooms for Spring for Lambertville Wedding

I know I've posted wedding photos of very rustic, vintage bouquets but that sure does seem to the be the trend this Spring.

Today's wedding bouquet for bride Alaina has some of our favorite Spring elements such as feverfew, buplerium, lilacs, thistle and accents of succulent plants. The stems were wrapped with a thick twine to keep with the natural theme of the bouquet. We had hoped to include mountain mint and fresh lavender but the unusually cold Spring has made those flowers a little late to bloom but the overall look and feel is sure to meet with her approval. Do you like Alaina's Spring Time Bouquet?

Keeping it Real and Rustic

Do you have a love of Whisky? What about wine? Ever notice those super cool bottles that your favorite "drink" comes in? Why not work them into your wedding centerpieces like our Bride Sharon did with her table arrangements this past fall.

Taking her mixture of bottles along with boxes, tins and other fun rustic containers, we created natural and fun centerpieces for her Stone House wedding reception. What we loved about this particular wedding was the fact that she has a love of anything funky and natural. These table centerpieces used typical flowers such as garden roses and dahlias but then we really went "wild' with elements such as echeveria plants, scabiosa pods, craspedia and herbal elements such as rosemary and then added interesting foliage's such as sword fern and seeded eucalyptus. Most tables had more than one element like this one that had a brass tin, a whiskey bottle and a moss nested succulent plant.

In case you were wondering about the other floral elements, the bouquet pictured below was what the brides maid's carried - mini bouquets of all baby's breath wrapped in twine. The bridal bouquet was also all white with a combination of baby's breath, ranunuculus, hydrangeas and garden roses. Simple and clean was the order of the day for the bouquets but by the time guests made it to the reception, the funky ~ natural centerpiece took center stage for this Sunday afternoon wedding.

It's always fun having our design featured in a blog but especially one like Brides.com. We had fun working with bride Nicole, who by chance works for Brides Magazine. All white flowers, simple and romantic for her fall wedding at Clarks Landing Yacht Club. Her bouquet was created with hydrangeas, dahlias, ranunculus and lisianthus. Nicole feel in love with a bouquet we had created for a bride (Jackie) last year at the shore, so it was a pleasure to recreate it for her. The brides maids carried hand tied bouquets of creamy white hydrangea and as you can see for this photo, the look is soft and romantic. This wedding is the true example of simple ~ elegance, wouldn't you agree?
